About Us

Fredericksburg Christian Health Center (FCHC): Bringing Hope & Healing to Our Community

Fredericksburg Christian Health Center (FCHC) is more than a Family Practice medical clinic—it is a Christ-centered ministry committed to bringing hope and healing to the poor and marginalized by caring for the mind, body, and spirit.

At FCHC, every patient is welcomed with compassionate, high-quality healthcare regardless of their financial situation. We serve those with Medicaid, Medicare, and those without insurance, ensuring that no one is left without care.

A Ministry of Whole-Person Care

We believe healthcare is more than just medicine—it is an opportunity to extend the love of Christ through evidence-based, comprehensive, and prayerful care. From leadership decisions to daily patient interactions, the Holy Spirit is welcomed, pursued, and given space to work.

Through Primary Care, Behavioral Health, Health-Bridge community outreach, and Nutritional Services, FCHC addresses:

  • Medical needs – Preventative care, chronic disease management, and family medicine.

  • Emotional and spiritual well-being – Christ-centered counseling and whole-person care.

  • Social determinants of health – Overcoming barriers like food insecurity and access to care through strategic partnerships with organizations like Micah Ministries, Empower House, Mary’s Shelter, and the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.

Healing Beyond the Walls of the Clinic

FCHC is not just a place where patients pass through a broken healthcare system—we walk alongside our patients, partnering with them in their journey toward healing. Through Health-Bridge and the upcoming mobile health clinic (in partnership with the Rappahannock Area Health District), we are actively bringing healthcare into the community, reaching those who might otherwise go without.

Our Vision

We long to see our patients and our community experience healing and wholeness through Jesus Christ. Every day, we witness the power of Christ-centered care transforming lives—and we invite you to join us in this mission.

Our History

In 2001, Dr. Timothy Powell felt the call to leave the for-profit private practice model of health care and obey Jesus’ command to care for the poor and spread the Gospel by opening a mission-focused, non-profit health clinic that would provide high-quality and affordable services to the uninsured.

With the assistance of board members, local businesses and churches, and Mary Washington Hospital, the Fredericksburg Christian Health Center opened its doors in January 2003. Dr. Powell and his three staff were able to provide over 800 office visits to uninsured patients that year.

Over the years, FCHC grew to have up to 20 staff (to include the equivalent of 4 full-time medical providers) and ten volunteers. In 2013, Dr. Stinar joined FCHC, adding procedures and more robust women’s health services to the practice. We provided over 4000 visits to uninsured patients that year.

The Vakos Company graciously donated a satellite office in Spotsylvania to FCHC from 2014 through 2020. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to close this office. Various churches have provided food, clothing, and hygiene supplies for FCHC to give away. Currently, Lifepoint Church is operating a food bank out of FCHC.

From 2003 through 2020, FCHC has provided over 50,000 visits to uninsured patients, providing over 6 million dollars of charitable services. Our staff prays with over 800 patients each year.

The Fredericksburg Christian Health Center has been a rotation site for medical students from the medical school at UVA. In 2016 God revealed to Dr. Powell the influence he could have on the future generation of Physicians and called him to pursue a position with a medical school. In January 2017, Dr. Stinar started transitioning into the medical director role for FCHC. In August of 2017, Dr. Powell moved to North Carolina to join the teaching staff at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. With the common utilization of video-conferencing that came with the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Powell could continue his partnership and leadership with FCHC by joining the FCHC board of directors in 2021.

Dr. Stinar leads FCHC with the vision of being more than just a doctor’s office but a ministry that facilitates healing in the entire community. We desire FCHC to be an active partner with other health professionals, community service providers, and Christian ministries and churches to accomplish our joint mission of caring for the poor and sharing the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. We hope to be a catalyst in uniting the Body of Christ to be the hands and feet of Jesus together, regardless of differences in denomination/doctrine, skin color, cultural background, and socioeconomic status.

Who We Are

Fredericksburg Christian Health Center identifies as part of the larger Body of Christ. We seek to be a catalyst in unifying His Body by partnering with a diverse group of local churches. We hope that the local Christian community will grow closer to God and each other through volunteering, employment, leadership, providing financial and/or spiritual support, or being seen as patients at FCHC.
