We believe that everyone deserves
access to high-quality healthcare.
We have partnered with the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank to have Food Distributions! What’s offered is food and fresh produce for our local community. These events occur twice a month and are open to anybody who wants food and fresh produce! We are thankful for this partnership and to the Regional Food Bank for being able to nourish our community.
The Fredericksburg Christian Health Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Although most of our patients have private health insurance or Medicare, each year 30-40% of services go towards charity care. Traditionally these services have been to patients without health insurance. From 2003 to 2019 FCHC provided about 50,000 appointments to patients without insurance, giving away well over $5 million dollars worth of healthcare services.
We provide the same high quality health care to patients with or without insurance, charging those on our charity program a minimal fee based on household income. To qualify for the FCHC uninsured program household income must be less than 200% of the Federal Poverty level. Charity services for Medicaid and uninsured patients includes psychiatry services and nutritional counseling with a registered dietician.
With the expansion of Medicaid in VA in 2019, FCHC is now incorporating the care of Medicaid patients as part of our charity care. Although Medicaid does pay physicians, the reimbursement rates are far from adequate to cover the expense of providing quality health care. Most Medicaid reimbursements are $30-$50 short of overhead costs for each visit. For this reason most doctor’s offices don’t see patients with Medicaid, or only see a very limited amount of Medicaid patients. This makes it difficult for patients with Medicaid to find a doctor willing to see them. Currently, 25-30% of our patient population have Medicaid and 10% are uninsured.
